The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on the streaming platform soon, and audience theories has been intense.
The first season presents a large cast of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes tense rivalries and emotional bonds that fuel audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner commented recently. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 moves, and how many of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans create a prediction grid about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
