A man who laced candy with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a summer program in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offences against two young males both nine and 10.
The accused was taken into custody after eight youngsters and a grown-up fell ill at the location in July.
The elderly man, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.
Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was held in detention prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he managed.
The defendant engaged in a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the children "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.
The legal representative stated further: "Recently" his family member had concerns about the situation, justifiably.
"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC explained objects including baby oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his family member alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She said Ruben proceeded to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities once more.
She stated the defendant then conducted the "sweet game" in a room of five minors.
