The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
