From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, demons, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could help the group reach places they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.
What’s Next?
According to episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Questers and Schemers tables.
Audiences can expect finding out which characters will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
